English as a Second Language

About ESL

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Ministry is a collaboration with Washtenaw Literacy and offers English language and American culture tutoring for international visitors. Learners attend classes weekly on Tuesday afternoons for 1.5 hours.

The ESL program creates a space for learners to engage in American culture and English language skills building. The ESL classes teach different English language skills, according to the English ability of the students, interest, and needs. All programs teach the following: grammar, reading, comprehension, writing, and vocabulary.

We welcome ESL tutor volunteers from our church and other interested individuals in the community as an opportunity to be involved in this ministry. Volunteer tutors do not need to know any specific languages, and additional tutor training is available through Washtenaw Literacy. Come and observe to see if this is a ministry you would enjoy!
