Come to the blessing of the backpacks

Our time in worship on Sunday, September 6, will feature a "Blessing of the Backpacks." School's beginning is just around the corner, and Interim Pastor Larry Farris asks that all children and middle school youth of the congregation bring their school backpacks with them to worship at either the 9:30 or 11:00 a.m. service to get those backpacks blessed! Don't be shy, don't be embarrassed. This is a special moment to remember that Jesus is with us wherever we go and whatever we do, even school! And it is a time for our congregation to ask God's blessing upon our children and youth as the school year begins. School is exciting and challenging, and we need all the help we can get. Try it! You'll like it! Bring your backpack to church and get it blessed, and you'll get blessed, too.

Children and youth who are not able to be in worship on September 6 will be able to pick up a sign of that blessing (it's a surprise!) as well as a short litany to use with their parents so that their backpacks may also be blessed. This opportunity will continue throughout the month of September. See Deborah MacVey, Director of Children's Education and Family Ministries, to pick up the materials. We pray that everyone has a great year at school!
